Description of program:
Curriculum includes ethical and legal issues in supervision; regulatory issues including Ohio laws, including supervision laws/rules, professional standards, credentialing processes; route of reporting ethical violations, confidentiality and maintaining professionalism, professional boundaries and how supervision can help clinicians maintain ethical/legal standards.
Workshop objectives:
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:
- gain updated knowledge the topic of professional boundaries
- understand the implication of this knowledge for supervision
- understand the current ethical and legal issues in supervision
- explore their own personal boundaries and how they may impact their supervisory work
- discuss strategies to deal with potential boundary crossings and ethical violations in their supervisee’s work
- Review case examples of ethical dilemmas and appropriate supervisory responses

- Legal principles (malpractice, negligence, standard of care, vicarious liability, regulatory issues including Ohio laws, supervision law/rules, professional standards, credentialing processes;
- Ethical issues in supervision (dual roles, competency in supervision, informed consent, due process, confidentiality, therapy vs. supervision, social networking
- Dual relationships, touch, self-disclosure, sexual contact
- How supervisors can assist, monitor and manage supervisees/client boundaries and meet ethical/legal standards
